Austral

Through a mostly low key esthetic, these images explore the geography of silence in southern environments, where the lack of light not only defines the weather but also sets the pace of an interrupted existence. In this apparent void, abstraction becomes the tool that captures the magnitude of the invisible: the wind’s energy that alters the surface of the water and the inertia of the mineral structures which, worn, reveal the intrinsic fragility of an environment in constant transition. The work travels along the lonely immensity of the poles, transforming the geographical landscape into a conceptual study of entropy. As all scale references are deleted, the series highlights the systemic risk in this territory: the erosion of its solid shapes and the fragmentation of its matter are not only visual events but they are also evidence of a fragile balance.

Austral aims at documenting the sovereignty of the elements and the trail of a planetary life which, facing the alteration of its natural cycles, vanishes in its own darkness.
